July 2009

Omaruru is a cold place currently. It is now winter and especially at night the temperatures drops below 0 degrees Celsius. Oddly enough the temperature rises at 20 degrees Celsius during daytime, so within 24 hours there are enormous differences. Luckily we have a new roof on the house, which means that it is better isolated and our habitants sleep comfortably.

We have managed to realize this thanks to the many sponsors and support of you in the recent years Who could have thought that when we started this project 6 years ago, that we could offer such a life to 18 girls. They now have a chance of a better future; go to school, understand what a hygienic life means, make plans for their own future, what they want to become in life and have learnt something about their own country and the world! Locally Heike and Apolonnia help them to bring them in contact with different aspects of life and show them that there is a way out of their, sometimes, desolate circumstances. Further away from Namibia we all together help them to create these possibilities.

Because we always write to you about the life in Omaruru, how they are living together at Siama, we would like to pay tribute to a part of our sponsors and supporters. Please understand that we cannot pay tribute to each and everyone in one newsletter, but be assured that every gift, how small or big, is enormously appreciated and give our project so much courage to carry on! Siama started as a dutch project but who could have thought that we would become international? We have sponsors in Germany, Luxemburg, France, United States and ofcourse the Netherlands!

Thanks to Heike we have a lot of sponsors in Luxemburg. Heike s mother recently collected a large amount via Club Guttland; Fifty One International. A fantastic support which this group of friends assembled for Siama.

Recently we received through a cousin of Ada, a donation of B.A.M., a dutch building organization. Because they existed 140 year, they decided to celebrate their birthday, BAM 140, by asking their employees to put forward a name of a welfare organizations. They then elected 140 projects and donated a substantial amount to each organization.

And not to forget, we have a very good relationship with Namibie ProKind. This German organization helps and support our children with paying their schools, and various educational materials and means. The elder girls who now go to secondary school, have extra lessons in computer education in Omaruru. This lessons are given in Omaruru and are very expensive in Namibia. They give the girls better chances for their future.

10 December 2008 was the iCap Charity Day. iCap is a worldwide energy-broker. The idea behind the iCap Charity Day is that the brokers themselves are giving away their own commissions to charity, as well as the company giving away its revenues. Every country chooses its own charities and in the Netherlands Dolly Wilbrink nominated Siama. We personally visited the employees of iCap on December 10th to thank them for their support and efforts during that day!

WEVEA (Work One Day for Another) supports our work for many years already. What started as a small initiative in the SAP world, is now a national day where more than 100 consultants take a day off, go to work anyway and donate their revenues for that day to a charity. Wevea has helped us tremendously and we are very honoured that so many consultants offer their revenues to us.

A family in Noord Brabant (NL) recently celebrated their 25th anniversary and wanted to spend their holidays together with their children in Namibia. Through the internet they found our site and decided that instead of presents they would ask for a donation for Siama during their anniversary party. Fantastic that they found us through the internet and had so much trust in us. The amount they received during their celebration is now personally brought to Omaruru and we wish them a very nice holiday!

A relation of the Don Boscoschool also celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary and they also wanted a donation for Siama instead of presents. Many many thanks for that.

But ofcourse we will not forget the many monthly donations we receive. Fantastic that we have so many loyal supporters who help our organization every month. It was definitely the start we needed in the beginning to help us pay the bills and is still the solid base on which we can continue our work. Our deepest appreciation for that.

And what did we achieve with all this support . We have a good roof above our heads in Omaruru, the girls can go to school by bike, we have the possibility to pay Heike and Apolonnia a salary. We are very happy with such people who put their efforts in the girls every day. And that is not an easy job .. little girls become (difficult) teenagers ..

There is a better watersupply at Siama; a new connection on the well so we have our own water and can grow our own vegetables. We bought a sunboiler so we can have our own (green) energy. This is also a cheap and reliable way to have energy. Sometimes the electricity is disconnected for hours in Omaruru.

And ofcourse a great part of the money goes to day to day maintenance; the car needs to be repaired, there needs to be food on the table, the doctor needs to be paid, all the cost that every family knows so well .and which helps to keep our house running smoothly in Omaruru.

We can continue for a while with all the support and donations we receive from private initiatives, organizations etc. and ofcourse we have not mention all of them. But be assured that each and every support is so much appreciated by us, the girls and our staff in Omaruru.

Not a lot of news from Omaruru this time, it is going well with everyone. Next time we will bring you some news from them again. This time just some pictures.
