November/December 2007

When you receive this newsletter, it is springtime in Namibia and also the rainseason.

But the rain, which they desperately need, only fell once this season. They need a little bit more…..

The temperatures are above 30C, there is a lot of wind, dark clouds, thunder and lightning… but the rain… they will have to wait for it in Omaruru. The nature is beautiful, flowers are blossoming, and we have a lot of vegetables from our garden.

Springtime in Namibia, but they have to wait for rain, and preferably a good one, because we would like to test the roof of our Siama house.

It has been fixed in July!!!

High School

Four of our girls, are going to High school. Omaruru only has one school where you can follow secondary education. This is quite unique as Namibia does not have a lot of schools to follow more education after primary school.

We are very happy that 4 of our girls have been admitted to the school under condition that they pass the year’s end exams. They will start half January at their new school and we look forward to a new period in their lives.

Excursion

The girls of Siama made an excursion at the end of October to Epupa Falls in the North of Namibia. The Epupa Falls consist of a series of falls in the Kunene river of a total distance of 1,5km. The highest fall is approx. 32m. The river splits in various small canals and creates hundreds of small islands.

On their return which went via Etosha Park (lots of wildlife) they saw many elephants, lions, zebras and giraffes.  They were very excited about all their new experiences of the previous days. It is also for Namibian children an extraordinary trip and see so many wild animals. The population usually does not travel further than their own village.

Fashion Contest

Mercia one of our Siama girls, won a fashion contest at school. As you can see on the picture she was really looking beautiful and of course she was very proud of it.

 Mumps

The last schoolday before the spring holiday poor Engenesia woke up with the mumps saying: “I didn’t do anything; it came by itself!”. Four other girls were infected what spoiled their holiday but at least they didn’t miss school. All have recovered well!

Sponsor news

It’s not always easy to run a project like Siama which is financed by private hand. Therefore we were very grateful to receive a donation from the “Golf de Luxembourg – Domaine de Belenhaff”, the club where Heike’s parents are playing golf. On the occasion of the “Tournament Sharp Charity Match Play and Charity Challenge 2007” sponsored by Sharp and Porsche they collected 2.200 Euro for the benefit of Siama!!! Thanks to all the participants!

Also in the Netherlands we received some ´fantastic´ donations.

A group of runners in the ´Dam-tot-Dam’ run had their good efforts sponsored and together they ran a beautiful result for Siama. Our biggest thanks for that.

Another group, foundation Wevea, an organization of SAPconsultants who work one day a year pro-deo, donated a supurb amount for Siama. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

And ofcourse we do not want to forget our monthly sponsors and those people who do not ask for presents but instead a contribution for Siama. Thank you very much!!!

We and the children of Siama are very much helped by all these donations, and with their words; ‘Baie Dankie’.

With all these good news, we would like to conclude our newsletter.

Until next time….
